Enrique MejiaEnrique is a native Costa Rican who from a very early age felt a call from God. By the age of thirteen, he was working full time to support his family. During this time God, was preparing him in many ways for what was ahead. Enrique and Charlyn started working together in 1999, feeding and taking care of Costa Rican children in bad family situations. In 2000, Enrique and Charlyn were married and brought thirteen children to live in their home. Recently, Enrique has had the opportunity to work and learn along side established missionaries in Mexico but continues his focus on working with orphans and homeless in Costa Rica. Enrique is a father figure to many orphaned children including five that he and Charlyn have personally adopted. |

Charlyn Simpson MejiaCharlyn grew up in Alabama. By age thirteen, she had been to Costa Rica three times to visit missionaries and build relationships with local people. From 1991-1993 Charlyn took part in five mission trips to Guatemala and began sensing God’s call on her as a missionary to Central America. In 1993, Charlyn ended her pursuits and education in fashion design and enrolled in a Costa Rican language school specializing in teaching Spanish to missionaries. During this time of training and preparation, God began to reveal His plan for her to remain in Costa Rica and minister to orphans and mothers who had no husbands. Charlyn has made Costa Rica her home since 1993. |

Ana MejiaAna met Charlyn in 1994 and quickly a great friendship was formed. Ana, herself a mother, had a desire to work with children. Ana and Charlyn began working in extremely poor areas of San Jose giving out food and clothing to children. During this time, Ana taught Charlyn many things about the Costa Rican culture and language. As Hidden Treasures has grown, Ana has ministered to many single mothers and orphan children. She has been a vital caregiver to the many children Hidden Treasures works with as well as the five adopted by Charlyn and Enrique. |

MartaMarta met Charlyn and Enrique in 2001. For fifteen years Marta has worked with orphaned children, having as many as thirty children in her home at a time. Marta now in her 70’s, who grew up on a farm in Costa Rica and understands hard work. She has a great love for children and endures many sleepless nights feeding hungry babies and working long hours. Unfortunately, recent government cutbacks have taken away what little financial support Marta had. As Marta is getting older, she is more dependent on Hidden Treasures. Enrique and Charlyn have partnered with Marta, reaching out to the children in her care. They are making sure each receives love and care as well as books and education. |
